General Home Maintenance Checklist

by Valentin

Keeping our home well-maintained throughout the seasons is something we all strive for. A lot of things go into keeping us comfortable all year long. The home’s atmosphere, temperature, and overall tidiness contribute to the resident’s well-being.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a checklist of everything that needs to be taken care of so that you don’t have to force yourself to remember each time? We’ve prepared a little general home maintenance checklist to help you.

1.      Smoke Alarms

One of the most dangerous things that can happen to you at home is a fire burning your house. To protect yourself from a fire, a smoke alarm in the home becomes a valuable asset. It starts sounding an alarm when it detects smoke, giving us time to remove ourselves from the property and call the professionals.

Smoke alarms need regular battery changes and need to be inspected from time to time to ensure they are working fine. Be sure they are working fine because smoke detectors can save your life.

2.      AC Cooling

Keeping your home nice and cool during the summer is important. We all want our home to be comfortable, even if it’s hot enough to cook eggs on the sidewalk outside. There’s nothing like walking into an air conditioned house after some fun outside in the sun.

Our ACs need regular maintenance to function optimally. Before you turn on your AC this summer, remember to get it inspected for any problems and serviced. Servicing your AC regularly avoids any issues growing into a serious problem.

If anything concerning shows up during the inspection, then it can be repaired right away. That way, it lasts longer and saves you money in the long run.  Call professionals for AC repair or service when summer starts.

3.      Heating

When the colder months show up, we want our homes to be warm and toasty. Whatever heating system you use at home needs to be maintained to avoid any chilly nights. That’s why getting your heating system inspected every year is vital. Otherwise, any small problem could lead to greater damage.

You can search online or ask around people you know if you’re looking for reliable heating services before the winter. A check-up in time is better than an emergency repair.

4.      Landscaping

A manicured lawn is the pride of any home. When your grass gets too long, it becomes home to pests that can invade your home. It also reduces your curb appeal. Landscaping is a regular home maintenance task that needs attention at least once a week.

Cutting the grass and weeding the garden can be a meditative activity. If you don’t want to do it yourself, you can employ some children from the neighborhood.

5.      Cleaning

Some home maintenance tasks like AC or HVAC servicing are seasonal things, while others are something that needs attention every day, like cleaning. To keep your home clean, a little effort every day is better than weekly deep cleaning.

Hiring a cleaning service is not something everyone can afford. So, remember, it’s easier to maintain a clean house than clean a house you’ve let get dirty. If any messes are sorted as they appear, the work will not pile up and burden you.
